MachineMemory

Struct MachineMemory

Source
pub struct MachineMemory {
    pub ultra_banks: bool,
    pub rom_consts: bool,
    pub lut_banks: bool,
}
Expand description

Where a field machine keeps its memories.

The as-built machines put everything in block RAM, which is what runs out first on a full chip (a fixed-base machine used 72 BRAM36: banks M and A 16 each, bank I 16, base-point tables 22, program 2.5). The specialized layout moves the run-time-written banks to UltraRAM, which the design barely uses, and turns a constants-only bank I into LUT ROM.

Fields§

§ultra_banks: bool

Banks M and A and the key tables in UltraRAM (ram_style = "ultra"). Bank I also goes to UltraRAM when the program has inputs and no presets (UltraRAM cannot be preloaded).

§rom_consts: bool

Bank I as LUT ROM (ram_style = "distributed") when the program takes no per-context inputs, so the bank only holds constants. Also puts the constant ROM C, and the scanner’s per-context memories of programs with no T steps, in LUT RAM.

§lut_banks: bool

Banks M and A in LUT RAM (ram_style = "distributed") when ultra_banks is off: the layout that turns spare LUTs into machines once UltraRAM and block RAM are spent. Key tables stay in UltraRAM.

Implementations§

Source§

impl MachineMemory

Source

pub const AS_BUILT: MachineMemory

Every memory left to synthesis (block RAM), as mapped in Vivado on 2026-10-14.

Source

pub const SPECIALIZED: MachineMemory

UltraRAM banks and LUT-ROM constants (the default for FieldMachine::new).

Source

pub const BRAM_BANKS: MachineMemory

The block-RAM fallback for a machine that UltraRAM cannot hold: banks M and A (and key tables) in block RAM, constants still in LUT ROM. What the planner places when a build runs out of UltraRAM.

Source

pub const LUT_BANKS: MachineMemory

The LUT-RAM fallback: banks M and A in LUT RAM, key tables in UltraRAM, constants in LUT ROM.
